Trick Training

We are so excited to be starting a Trick Training course out in the open air and looking forward to putting some moves into a Heelwork to Music routine maybe!  We are training with the amazing Jodie of Crazelpup Dog Training  Toby loves to learn and we use a clicker and treat to reward the behaviour we are looking for.  To begin with we are just shaping behaviour with a box, so any interaction gets rewarded. Mikey Ben with the dogs

Burghley Game Fair 2019

Stephen took Bilbo & Pickle up to Burghley for the Living Heritage Game & Country Fair on the last May Bank Holiday weekend.  He met up with son David and family who brought along their campervan.  I stayed at home with Dora and the puppies and had various friends staying or visiting so it was good for Stephen to have the company and help! Our thanks also go to Carole Beaumont, her husband and Ella […]

Dora and Pickle at the Game Fair

Game Fairs 2019

The year is passing so quickly and once again the Game Fairs are upon us with the May Bank Holidays approaching fast!  We had a wonderful time last year going around the country attending all the Living Heritage Game Fairs.  However this year Netley and Essex Game Fairs have been dropped mainly due to the weather last year which was too hot at Netley and too wet and cold at Essex.  So hoping this year will […]

Heeler herding sheep

Training a Lancashire Heeler to herd sheep

Ann Jordan has kindly sent me a piece about her gorgeous liver and tan Heeler, Flora, and how she started to train her for herding.  We meet her each year at Discover Dogs so she is a multi-talented little dog! Wanting to “downsize” from Collies and Kelpies, I chose a Lancashire Heeler to help with sheep control in the future.  Not really knowing anything about how a Heeler may work, I was taking a risk […]

Hampshire Country Show – May 2018

It was a blisteringly hot couple of days at the Hampshire Country Show on 6-7 May 2018 – quite the opposite to Thame a month ago! Everyone was feeling the heat and we had taken our cool coats for the dogs which they wore all day long.  Many people were asking why our dogs were wearing coats in the heat and were surprised when touching them how cool and refreshing they were – we were […]

FAB Agility Show

Today we attended our first proper FAB Agility Show at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe.  Just took Dora for practice and to fathom out how an agility show works – quite a lot of waiting around for your turn but everyone is very friendly and helpful to “Newbies”!  Our trainer Tracy Ryan was there competing and pointed us in the right direction although in the excitement of running the course I completely lost my way […]

How to make a Snuffle Mat!

Snuffle mats can be made very easily and keep dogs occupied using their nose to find either small treats or kibble – especially useful when the weather is wet – they are also easily portable and washable.   Click on Dora to see her in action!   You will need: A fleecy throw or two (I found some in Wilko) A Rubber mat – you can use an outdoor mat or a sink drainer Sharp scissors Plus […]

Lancashire Heelers playing football on the beach

Lancashire Heelers are excellent at playing football! In June we drove up to Northumberland and hired a holiday cottage this year rather than hauling the caravan all the way!  We can thoroughly recommend Annstead Farm as a dog friendly place to stay and this wonderful beach is just across the road: Lancashire Heelers playing football video If you would like to visit the lovely Beadnall Bay where this video was filmed, here is a handy […]
