Little Charm

Dear little Charm and her four sisters – Toby & Daisy’s beautiful litter – have hopefully all found their new forever homes.

They visited the vet today for their final check up and microchipping.  There was not a peep out of any of them, they all travelled happily and were not fazed by anything!

A lovely, happy litter – we wish them all well in their new homes

Bilbo is 14 today!

Our little Bilbo turned 14 today and was rather bemused by his gifts 😁

He has always loved chasing balls but since he had cruciate ligament surgery a few years’ ago he has had to be restricted on playing with balls.  So one of his presents was a large soft football to play with which he enjoyed chasing as well as chewing and shaking – it is still intact but will have to be kept away from his sister Pickle who is the arch-destroyer of all dog toys in this house 🤣

Dora wins her first KC agility course

Dora, our little super star, went to her first proper Kennel Club agility show this weekend and entered at Grade 1.

She had already won Best Veteran Bitch in the Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show on 17/8/23 and then went on to win her classes on Saturday and Sunday winning a beautiful rosette and mug each time – whereas young Toby was totally engrossed in all the amazing doggy smells and got eliminated for weeing in the tunnel!

We were very fortunate as our trainer, Jodie of Crazelpup Dog Training, was also at the show and she guided us through the whole process as I don’t think I could have fathomed it all out on my own!

2022 – What a year for MadinCrowd!

Having been very forgetful to update our website this year, we are doing a brief round-up of what our beautiful, talented dogs have achieved in 2022!

SHOWING

It was fun to get back to showing once again and Dora gained her third Challenge Certificate at South Wales KC in Veteran to make her a Champion – its been a long time coming but we can’t complain as she was often pipped at the post by her younger sister Katy, Ch Madincrowd Mercy Chant!  Dora was also Best Veteran at five of the Championship Shows she attended.

Katy, owned by Lynn Jones, also gained two more Challenge Certificates and three Reserve CCs.

Toby, Madincrowd Edred, won two Challenge Certificates and a Reserve CC.  He was also Best of Breed at the Poole Premier Open Show and Shaftesbury & Gillingham Open Show this year.

Jeannie, Madincrowd Martha, won a Reserve CC.

And a special mention must go to Toby’s gorgeous daughter Lana, Srencem Edred’s Edwina, who was Best Puppy Bitch and Reserve Best Puppy at the Lancashire Heeler Club Championship show in October.

AGILITY

We entered a beginners agility steeplechase in December and amazingly Toby had a clear round and came second – we might have done a faster round if he hadn’t lost focus and gone to eye up the ladies waiting their turn!

DISCOVER DOGS

Sadly we couldn’t attend Crufts in March due to isolating with covid but at least we were able to be there in spirit!

However, Toby and I did manage to attend Discover Dogs at London Excel in October and it was a very busy couple of days with lots of visitors and great interest shown in the breed.

HEELWORK TO MUSIC

In May Toby and I entered the pre-beginner’s HTM class at Paws in the Park, Ardingly – we came second – mind you we only had to do a routine of one minute’s duration but that was enough!  We did have fun and worked to Bring me Sunshine by Morecombe & Wise which seemed very appropriate for a Lancashire Heeler:  Bring me Sunshine HTM video

OTHER EVENTS

Unfortunately we have given up the Game Fairs now but we do try and help out at other events such as Discover Dogs above.  We also enjoy helping our dog trainer Jodie, of Crazelpup when she attends events and it is another way of getting the breed shown and known:

This year Toby and I went to Dogstival which is held at Broadlands, Romsey and is a hugely popular event, and also the Harmans Cross Village Fete and did demonstrations of trick training and Hoopers.

Bilbo became a teenager in September, he still enjoys his Hoopers but sadly the damp and cold weather affects his arthritis so we will have to wait for the warmer weather to hopefully start again.  His younger sister Pickle turned twelve and is as cheeky as ever!

Little Tommy Tiptoes

Jean Turner, our friend and breeder in Saxmundham, Suffolk has a dog puppy that has unexpectedly become available through no fault of his own.  He is ten weeks’ old, KC registered, hereditarily clear of PLL and has had his first vaccination.  He lives with his mum Daisy and grandmother Lizzie.  Lizzie is one of our Pickle’s puppies so we regularly keep in touch and it would be wonderful if we can help Tommy find his forever home.

The litter is advertised on the Kennel Club Find a Puppy website – please click on the link or email us for further info.

Trick Training

We are so excited to be starting a Trick Training course out in the open air and looking forward to putting some moves into a Heelwork to Music routine maybe!  We are training with the amazing Jodie of Crazelpup Dog Training

Toby loves to learn and we use a clicker and treat to reward the behaviour we are looking for.  To begin with we are just shaping behaviour with a box, so any interaction gets rewarded.

Here is a video of Toby practicing what we learnt this first week:

Homemade Dog Treats – Mini Mackerel Morsels!

It is fun to make your own dog treats or biscuits and this is a very simple but tasty recipe.

You can adapt the base flavour to whatever you might have in the store cupboard, such as tinned mackerel, sardines, tuna etc.  For this particular batch I used a small tin of mackerel fillets in oil and all the dogs love it.

You can buy silicone moulds from Amazon and there is quite a variety on there – I like the little round ones and tiny bone shaped ones!

Basic Recipe

  • 100g base flavour (tinned mackerel in this case)
  • 100g flour (wholemeal or plain)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Water if needed to make a batter consistency

Method:

  • If you have a food processor or liquidiser it is easiest as you can put everything in the bowl and blitz.
  • Otherwise mash the base flavour, mix in the eggs and oil then fold in the flour.
  • If necessary, add water to get a batter consistency
  • Fill your silicone moulds
  • Bake for 30-40mins Gas 2, 300°F or 150°C
